The National Gallery: Art on your doorstep

The National Gallery: Art On Your Doorstep is a UK-wide programme that shares masterpieces from the nation’s collection with communities. Croydon is one of 12 towns that will be exhibiting reproductions from the Gallery during 2026 and 2027.

Selected with the help of local community groups, 30 paintings will be on display in the town centre, of which two are atThe Whitgift:

  1. On the fountain at Whitgift Square
  2. Chapel Walk entrance to The Whitgift next to McDonalds

Other town centre locations also include: Queen’s Gardens, Croydon Minster, Chapel Walk and Park Hill Park.  Pieces will also be installed in Coulsdon, New Addington, Purley, Thornton Heath and Upper Norwood.

The ‘Croydon collection’ includes works by Artemisia Gentileschi, Monet, Picasso, Renoir, Stubbs, Turner, Van Eyck, Van Gogh and many more. Each painting will be life-sized, so get up close to discover brilliant brush strokes and hidden details!
