Introduction to Patchwork using Hand Sewing and Paper Piercing

At the Textile Repair Cafe, we want you to love your clothes for longer. But what do you do if your clothes are beyond repair? We have plenty of ideas for repurposing or upcycling fabrics!

This workshop will introduce you to the delightful and satisfying craft of creating a piece of patchwork from scraps of fabric.

You will learn:

  • how to choose the right fabrics
  • how to make your templates
  • how to prepare the hexagons
  • how to sew together by hand.

We will also discuss ideas for things you will be able to make from your patchwork, however large or small you want to make it. At the end of the class you will have the beginnings of a patchwork project which you can take home and continue to make into anything you like.

At the Textile Repair Café, we keep our class sizes small to allow plenty of time for questions and 1 to 1 guidance as necessary.

WHAT TO BRING

All equipment and materials will be provided. You will have access to a selection of suitable fabric scraps but feel free to bring along your own fabric / old clothes if you have a particular colour palette in mind.
